About The Wooly

The Wooly is an event hall at 20 N. Main Street in downtown Gainesville, run by the owners of The Top with in-house catering and concert sound. It holds up to 130 people for a seated buffet meal and up to 200 for a cocktail-style party, and it takes weddings, holiday parties, corporate events and concerts. The building has been a hotel, a general store, a bank and a Woolworth five and dime. The owners of The Top acquired it in 2006, and The Wooly opened in 2013 as one of the music venues for The Fest.

The building

The site held The Arlington Hotel from 1860 until it burned down in 1884, then Endel's Dry Goods from 1886, Gainesville National Bank from 1907, and a Woolworth's five and dime from 1923. Chesnut's bought the property in 1983 and made it an office supply store.

How it started

The owners of The Top acquired the building in 2006. The Wooly opened its doors for the first time in 2013 as one of the music venues for The Fest, a yearly punk music festival.
